Castles for sale in Scotland are not that uncommon, location though can be hit and miss, I like this one, for the location!
At £2.35m it's not the most expensive castle around but then it's going to need a bit of work. It was being run as a business but that has since closed.
On the shores of the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, it's remote, but then that's the appeal, for me at least. Close by Tobermory is 15 minutes away, Fort William is 40 miles to the East but you are 130 miles from Glasgow and 160 from Edinburgh. This is remote at its best. Having said that it's still reasonably accessible to key routes for travel.
The castle was originally built for a diamond magnate, C D Rudd between 1898 and 1902. Designed by Sydney Mitchell it used red sandstone from Annan in Dumfrieshire. A house existed on the site before the castle replaced it. The castle was used in the past for deer stalking before becoming a hotel/guesthouse and for events.
The castle is unsurprisingly A-listed. Built between 1898 and 1902 the castle is a Scottish Baronial Mansion built from Sandstone. It sits in a high position looking out over Loch Sunart. Stunning panoramic views.
It has 16 principal bedrooms and further accommodation for staff. An impressive list of parts to this castle include:
It has been used for commercial purposes, more of a guesthouse than a hotel. TripAdvisor has 89 reviews, the last in 2015 and it had a 5-star rating from guests.
A self-styled mystic (yup) owned the property but was evicted last year which is why it's on the market now and probably why it needs much work. The owner had only had the property for a couple of years and planned to turn it into a luxury retreat. It was purchased in 2022 for £3.75m, quite a drop in price as it's on the market today at £2.35m. But again, it needs work.
You can read a bit more on the Daily Mail here if interested.
I will let the images tell the current story of the property. I will just say though, that the snooker table cloth colour and the chairs around the table have triggered me :)

Whilst it's available for sale you can see more about it here on the Savills Website.
